Finbond Mutual Bank

Job Description:

Finbond is a growth-focused financial services group operating across South Africa and North America. Our Risk and Analytics function turns the group's data into decisions and owns enterprise risk management across credit, operational, market and liquidity risk at Group level. We are looking for a senior, hands-on risk analyst to partner closely with the Group Chief Risk and Analytics Officer. This is a role for someone who likes being in the detail: building the models, running the numbers and writing the analysis that the group's financial and liquidity risk decisions rest on.

This is a hands-on, in-the-weeds role that touches on all aspects of enterprise risk management with a deliberate financial and liquidity risk emphasis. You will do the work yourself: building and improving the models, stress-testing the assumptions, digging into the data, and communicating findings in clear, easy-to-action terms. You will also review and sharpen the work of a small risk and analytics team.

What you will do

Financial and liquidity risk (your main focus)
• Own the monthly liquidity stress test. The model stresses and varies key assumptions across each business unit's five-year financial forecast and rolls them up into real cashflow implications at group level. You will build and improve it, run it each month, and produce a report on the key findings, assumptions and implications.
• Develop the group's thinking on asset and liability management, funding and commercial paper strategy, and the capital and liquidity questions that sit behind an ICAAP or ILAAP style view of the balance sheet.
• Anticipate, measure and monitor the group's financial risks, unpack the key risk indicators used to track them, explain what is moving and why, and propose better ways to measure
them.

Enterprise and credit risk
• Analyse and quality-check the monthly Group Risk Report, and follow up on the key risk indicators and the per-brand operational risk trackers.
• Review and pressure-test the IFRS 9 and expected credit loss models prepared by the team's risk analyst: scrutinise parameter updates, investigate movements that are hard to explain, and translate impairments, write-offs and recoveries into terms the business understands. You do not need to be the credit modelling specialist, but you should be able to challenge the work with authority.
• Run frequent, practical deep dives into operational credit-risk questions that help the group improve underwriting, product mix and profitability.

Analytics and data
• Query the data warehouse directly to check the business-intelligence and management information reports and KPIs before they go out.
• Write your own SQL and build your own models. You should be comfortable working in a modern cloud data warehouse. You should be able to get to your own data without waiting for someone else but you will get support on automation and best practices from the analytics specialists on the team.
• Use whatever tools get the job done well, from Excel and VBA to SQL, Python and AI assisted analysis.

Decision support and corporate finance
• Turn around ad hoc analysis and decision support for executives and brand heads.
• Get into the detail on due diligence and transactions: building valuation models, analysing fundamentals and flagging the risks.
• Work alongside a small risk and analytics team, sharing the workload and helping them sharpen their craft.

About you
Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Risk or a quantitative field.
Experience in financial risk, treasury, ALM or liquidity risk.
Strong analytical, statistical and modelling skills.
Proficient in SQL, Excel/VBA and Python.
Able to independently manage projects and deliver results.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Self-motivated, organised and deadline-driven.
Passion for finance and financial markets.
