About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Commercial Underwriter to join our dynamic underwriting team. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong technical underwriting expertise, a commitment to service excellence, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the accurate underwriting of commercial risks, supporting brokers and clients, and contributing to continuous improvement within the department.

Key Responsibilities

* Underwrite and manage commercial insurance risks in line with company standards and insurer mandates
* Ensure accurate policy administration, endorsements, and premium calculations
* Handle client and broker queries with a strong focus on service excellence
* Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail in all underwriting activities
* Support claims-related processes where required
* Contribute to process, system, and product improvements
* Assist in maintaining and promoting a strong client-centric culture
* Collaborate with team members to ensure operational efficiency and service delivery
* Ensure compliance with all regulatory, contractual, and internal policy requirements

Minimum Requirements

* Qualification:
- NQF Level 5 in Short-Term Insurance (minimum)
* Regulatory:
- RE5 (Representative Examination) – compulsory
* Experience:
- Minimum 5 – 10 years’ experience in Commercial Underwriting
* Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance products (motor, property, liability, etc.)
- Proven ability to assess risk and apply underwriting principles
* Other Requirements:
- FAIS compliance (up to date)
- Strong administrative and system skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
