Job Description: Spray Painter
Core Responsibilities
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, masking, or blasting.

Mix paints to match required colours and finishes.

Apply primers, fillers, and topcoats using spray guns or manual methods.

Perform touch-ups, blending, and polishing for smooth finishes.

Apply protective coatings (anti-corrosion, sound-deadening, varnish, enamel, epoxy).

Operate spray paint equipment (cup guns, pressure pots, airless pumps).

Maintain tools, equipment, and spray booths.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Skills & Competencies
Strong colour vision and ability to distinguish shades.

Good hand-eye coordination and accuracy in spraying.

Knowledge of paint mixing formulas and application techniques.

Ability to work with industrial coatings and automotive finishes.

Attention to detail for smooth, even application.

Understanding of safety procedures (ventilation, protective gear).

Educational Requirements
Minimum: Grade 9–12 (depending on industry).

Recommended subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, Technical Drawing, Workshop Practice.

Formal training: Apprenticeship (typically 3 years) or trade test certification.

Experience
3–5 years in a paint shop or industrial environment.

Experience with automotive, rail, or industrial spray painting preferred.

Knowledge of shot blasting and surface preparation advantageous.

Work Environment
Spray booths, garages, workshops, or industrial plants.

Exposure to chemicals, fumes, and noise — requires protective clothing and equipment.

May involve overtime or working under artificial lighting.
