Job Purpose The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for installing, maintaining, fault-finding, and repairing mechanical machinery, plant equipment, and structural components. The successful candidate will ensure maximum equipment uptime and strict compliance with safety regulations to support continuous operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Assembly & Installation: Fit and assemble fabricated metal parts and components to build or modify machinery. Routine Maintenance: Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules on pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and alignment systems. Breakdown Repair: Diagnose mechanical faults rapidly under pressure and perform emergency repairs to minimise production downtime. Technical Interpretation: Read, interpret, and work accurately from engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and pneumatic/hydraulic schematics. Machining & Welding: Operate conventional workshop machinery (lathes, grinders, drills) and perform basic welding or cutting tasks. Rigging: Safely sling, lift, and position heavy machinery parts using overhead cranes and rigging equipment. Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, complete risk assessments, and maintain a clean workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Required Skills & Competencies Strong practical knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drive systems. Precision laser alignment and balancing skills. Proficient use of precision measuring tools (micrometres, vernier calipers). Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary maintenance team. Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and perform standby duties when required.
